I discuss the harsh financial reality facing new physical therapists: taking on $150,000 in student loans for an $85,000 starting salary. I break down how that debt compounds at 8% interest over 20 years and explore the disconnect between the calling narrative we're sold and the actual financial sustainability of the profession. While I love PT and believe in its impact, I argue that passion and payment must coexist, and that demanding fair compensation isn't incompatible with believing in the profession's purpose.
