Disordered Eating & The Psychology of Addiction
Kevin Burciaga is a physical therapist who helps others battling with eating disorders. After struggling with disordered eating himself, he developed his own philosophy and system for overcoming them called Empowered Eating.
He defines disordered eating as eating behaviors that affect your long-term health which is different from eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder).
What works to change these eating behaviors is beginning small. The behavior change will not occur if thinking all change needs to happen in one day.
This is crucial for a PT because eating disorders look at the whole person and consider both physiological and mental health issues.
