Jimmy talked with Mike Nichols, who is an ambassador for the Christopher & Dana Reeve foundation.  Mike was injured in a high school hockey game and suffered a SCI.  Since then, he has continued to inspire others with his recovery and advocacy for other patients.

Mikes Story:

I sustained a spinal cord injury during a varsity hockey game on January 4,2014. From the first day I was injured, support poured in from around the tri- state area – from fellow classmates to radio personalities Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton – as they shared my story and followed my progress with the hashtags #PrayforMikey and #MikeyStrong23 on social media.  This support continued to drive my desire for rehabilitation, and I then participated in the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation’s NeuroRecovery Network® with locomotor training. Since starting the program, there have been significant improvements in my trunk control and overall health.

Now I have partnered with the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation as a member of Team Reeve, a peer-to-peer fundraising initiative for spinal cord injury research and awareness. Within the past years, I have continued my education, planned charity events for spinal cord injury awareness, and became an ambassador for the paralysis community. I am also an avid supporter of The Big Idea, a movement supported by the Reeve Foundation that focuses on groundbreaking epidural stimulation research to improve quality of life for those living with a spinal cord injury.

My determination grows stronger every day as I work toward my personal goal of getting back on the ice while inspiring others in my community. I strive to share this story with as many individuals as possible in schools and organizations across New Jersey, delivering a message of hope and strength. If you want to help my efforts, please make a donation on this page.
